Navigating Victory Road in Pokemon FireRed is the ultimate test for trainers before they can challenge the Elite Four at the Indigo Plateau. This multi-level cavern is packed with aggressive wild Pokemon, elite trainers, and complex environmental obstacles. To successfully complete the route, you must bring a powerful team and a designated helper equipped with essential Hidden Machines.

Essential Preparation and Required HM Skills

Before stepping into the dark cavern, your party must be thoroughly prepared for both heavy exploration and unexpected battles. You cannot progress through the cave without a Pokemon that knows Strength to move the heavy boulders blocking your path. Additionally, having Surf is required to cross a small body of water on the upper floors of the complex structure.

It is highly recommended to stock up on Max Repels and Ultra Balls before leaving the Indigo Plateau guard gates. Utilizing items to reduce wild encounters allows you to preserve your team's health for the difficult trainer battles waiting around every corner. Taking the time to manage your inventory ensures a smooth journey through this challenging trial.

Mastering the First Floor Boulder Puzzle

Upon entering the first floor of Victory Road, you will immediately face a signature boulder mechanism that requires tactical positioning. Use Strength to push the nearby boulder onto the circular switch located on the right side of the chamber. Activating this switch lowers a rocky barrier further into the cave, unlocking the path to the main ladder.

After clearing the barrier, head up the newly opened ramp and defeat the trainers guarding the upper pathways. Grab any visible item pokeballs along the way to secure valuable items like rare candies or technical machines. Once you have cleared the area, locate the ladder in the northeast corner to descend deeper into the maze.

Navigating the Hidden Switchways of Floor Two

The second floor introduces a more complex layout featuring multiple levels and overlapping pathways that can easily disorient players. Locate the primary boulder near the center of the room and carefully push it onto the corresponding ground switch. This action will lower another barrier on the northern platform, granting access to the upper walkways.

Be cautious not to push the boulder against a wall, or you will be forced to exit the floor to reset the puzzle layout. This floor also contains powerful trainers who utilize high-level Rock and Fighting-type Pokemon to test your team's synergy. Defeating them allows you to safely access the ladder leading toward the final segment of the route.

Solving the Final Floor and Reaching the Exit

On the third floor, you must complete a unique puzzle that involves pushing a boulder down a specific hole in the ground. Drop the boulder through the opening and jump down after it to land back on the second floor in a previously unreachable area. Push that same boulder onto the nearby floor switch to permanently clear the path toward the exit portal.

Before you leave, you can find the legendary bird Moltres hidden deep within an optional chamber on this floor if you wish to expand your collection. If your team is exhausted, navigate directly past the final pair of double trainers to step out into the bright light of the northern exit. Once outside, you can safely use your registration properties to review your team before taking on the Indigo Plateau challenge.
